Both the Occupational Health and Safety Act and the environment are of paramount
importance for the Schmits organisation.
During the construction of the company plant in the mid-nineties the environment
and working conditions were continuously taken into account. The result is a
company with a labour-friendly climate meeting the strictest environmental demands.
Next to technological innovations in the production process, the innovative character and attitude
of all our staff also guarantees continuous improvements that facilitate labour.
The enterprise is very much aware of its own responsibilities in the field of safety, health and
the environment. Needless to say that we conformed to the Responsible Care Programme a
few years ago resulting in a constant aim at improving safety, health, environmental care
and communication performance.
An important part of the Responsible Care Programme that the enterprise is going to focus on
is Product Stewardship. A characteristic feature of Product Stewardship is chain control,
which aims for product care during the full product life cycle in the area of safety, health
and environment. Consequently, Product Stewardship ranges from raw material extraction
and raw material production as far as semifinished article, to production and the use of finished
product up to the final stage of the final product and its recycling, if any.
For further details with regard to Product Stewardship we refer to the VNCI homepage.
Furthermore we have been preparing ourselves for the effects of REACH for some time. Details can be found in the REACH chapter.
